CO-OPING AT SUBURBAN
As many parents say, co-oping can be the best part of your day. You get to
understand your child better, get to know their friends and really get some hands-on parenting
tips from the teachers. However, co-oping is not for everyone. A co-operative preschool
completely depends on it?s parents for everything from the cleanliness to the governance of
the school. In addition to any required participation (including in-depth cleaning, committee
or board participation and mandatory meetings), you will be asked to step up and accept additional
responsibility from time to time. This participation is a large part of what makes Suburban such a
special place. The more you participate, the more you will feel a part of the Suburban family, and
it truly is a family.
Here are some comments on co-oping from some of our parents and please take a look at
the co-oping agreement for a better understanding
of what is expected of you.
Comments from Parents:
"Co-oping is one of the ain reasons I am here. I love seeing the class day as it flows, meeting the other kids, seeing my daughter interact and play with other kids and learn from Vicki"
"This is one of my all time favorite experiences in life!"
"I truly enjoy co-oping. I love seeing how the children enjoy each other and Vicki and how they learn and experience new things each time."
"It is all that I thought it would be. I thoroughly enjoy every minute being in the classroom."
"I still find it a challenge to find a balance between being the mom of my own Yellowbird and still a co-oping mom for all the Yellowbirds."
"There is nothing better!"
"I enjoy co-oping a lot though I must confess that often I feel like I clean more than anything but this is probably just a function of the fact that the Yellowbirds are the messiest!"
"I love co-oping. I love getting to know the kids and you really never have that opportunity unless you co-op."
"I love co-oping and wouldn?t do preschool any other way. Very supportive environment."
"It is more challenging than last year and the frequency is difficult with having and infant."
"I?ve really enjoyed working in the class. Some of the other demands and expectations placed on the parents (clean-ups, mandatory meetings) have been a bit difficult to manage given we have 2 other kids in 2 other schools."
"I love spending the extra time with my child."
"It makes me a more relaxed parent."
"I love co-oping. Each year it is so different but so rewarding each time. I learn a lot about my child and the other children. I also feel like I can understand more of the teacher?s goals for the year and why she does what she does with the children."
"It has been hard but very rewarding."
"I didn?t realize how much I enjoyed co-oping until I went to a non-co-op school."
"I love it. I wish we could have had the same experience with our oldest child. I?ve learned a lot about parenting."
"Co-oping has been very rewarding for us both ? a large part (other than the teachers) of what makes SNS so special."
